Project Description For over a decade our sales partners at LBI have served a Chicagoland University’s laboratory furniture needs. They have become part of the planning, design and budgeting team. Through early involvement they’ve helped to reduce design costs, coordinate scheduling early in the process, and direct the design team to utilize standardized colors and furniture styles to the INSTOCK program to create a consistent and uniform lab design. LBI have a diverse range of services they’ve provided from, designing a University specific hood that can perform at a low air flow rate specific for the needs of the campus’ HVAC systems. At times LBI will integrate refurbished existing cabinetry combined with INSTOCK product to save costs, lead times, and reduce Chicago Based University Laboratory Furniture Case Study

waste on projects. Having furniture standardized to a single source increases the ability to relocate and reuse furniture as PI’s rotate through buildings and labs need to be reorganized and combined to make new spaces.

LBI’s preventative maintenance program for laboratory furniture has helped to extend the useful life of the existing lab furniture. They replace broken hood sashes from misuse by students, perform maintenance to the sash operational parts, replace the expendable parts of vacuum breakers and eyewash filters. If required when older spaces have the need for cabinetry replaced INSTOCK is used as a convenient and expeditious source for said replacements.
